About Emily

  • Fashion, style, pretty things have always peaked my fancy. The golden rule, give a hoot, don't pollute, save the whales are all a part of the fabric that is my childhood. Crafty and creative grandmothers, and a few years as a fashionista, then a Martha Stewart employee (proudly), and finally full circle as a yoga teacher...now I am living my dream of doing what I love and being who I want to be. Eco-Chic Weddings is my first book, I just finished a book for Popular Mechanics, and I am about to begin my second Eco-Chic book...I am here to inspire, enlighten, and learn from you dear reader. Peace.

March 2008

walk boston + new etsy friends

Well I had a whirlwind weekend in Boston at the "green" event. But mostly I enjoyed learning a bit more about Cambridge, which is where we stayed.

J'aime Colette is a Boston based  indie design label.

I also met two lovely Etsy designers at the event: Zestyb and Kiss and Tell Cards.

The best part of the weekend was walking the streets of Beacon Hill and Cambridge with my husband and daughter. It was windy and cold, the perfect weather for our own brisk walking tour.
If you go to Boston, you can take a guided  walking tour with Walk Boston.

I also took a fantastic yoga class at Karma Yoga, from a Baptiste trained teacher.

I'll tell you more later...

{autumn russell} on etsy: handmade wedding gowns

Etsy designer Autumn Russell makes some pretty nice dresses. Buying Handmade clothes and purchasing from independent designers is a very good way to encourage designers in general to  be more  fair in their manufacturing practices. Particularly mass produced items like a lot of the wedding dresses you will find on the market today.

Autumnrussellsketchfin

It's quite difficult to get straightforward information about labor practices when it comes to fashion. We as consumers really need to ask for more accountability from the designers we support.

{real eco-chic wedding} scott + simone

I just love this wedding...so pretty, simple, and fresh. Scott and Simone are the very nice couple who own and run Greenward Shop in Cambridge, MA, which I mentioned in yesterday's post.

MapleXO is a rocking line of eco-friendly jewelry made using the reclaimed wood from old skateboards. I especially like these bangles...MapleXO is owned by Lindsay Jo Holmes of Portland, OR. (prices range from $24-$48)
