{eco-travel} honeymoons, trains, and no planes: plan a green wedding with amtrak

Train travel is so underrated. Maybe in today's fast-paced culture, it's just not fast enough. Of course, that's mainly true in the U.S. In Europe,  Eurorail is a way of life. Go to sleep in Paris, wake up on the Riviera, ooh la la. With a Europass and and a backpack, you're good to go. But, I have a love for train travel here in the States.  S0, why not take your honeymoon by train? Who says you have to go to a congested airport, jump on a plane in order to have a good time? And how about those guests; cancel those carbon credits, and just have them travel by train...to your wedding, of course, not on the honeymoon...

Not one of the major online travel sites even talk about traveling by train. Not Expedia, Travelocity, or Orbitz. What's up with that?  The only travel site that really good information (other than Amtrak, of course) is Squidoo. Did you know that long distance train travel is actually in peril here in the US? Amazing, but true. How could this be, when traveling by train is one of the best ways to be green, reduce our carbon emissions, save resources. How come the government doesn't support train travel? Well, the automotive industry has the money, and lobbying groups, to influence the powers that be. But we need our trains!  So, I suggest we all start taking the train whenever possible. The first long distance train ride I took was from New York to Colorado. I had the time of my life. Check out the California Zephyr route as a possible honeymoon...cool, right? The man in seat 61 has loads of good ideas about train travel as an alternative to airtravel...plus, I have a bit of a cyber crush on him ;)
